Τα Μονοπάτια της Αμοργού

Amorgos is famous for its marked paths, which cover the entire island. Walking on them, the visitor can enjoy the natural beauty of Amorgos, discovers cultural monuments and entranced by the sight of the vast Aegean Sea.
Old Strata characterized as a difficult path, has a length of 11.5 km. starting from the Chora, continues to the Monastery Chozoviotissa, directed to River and ends at the bay of Aegiali. The average journey time is four hours.
The Fotodotis, connecting Chora with Katapola, has a length of 3.5 km and you can go downhill, from the Chora, in about an hour admiring the view of the sea.
The Itonia (Lefkes, Agioi Saranda, Kamari, Kastri (Ancient Arkesini) Vroutsi, Rachoula, Arkesini) is the cultural path of the island, and along its 10km. the traveler discovers the cultural evolution of the island over the centuries. Considered difficult path and the average route is calculated at about three hours.
The path of Melanias, length of 4,5 km (Ormos Aegiali Langada Stroumbos, Virgin Epanochoriani, Tholaria) , passes through traditional villages and ruins of Cycladic and Middle Cycladic period, while the view of the bay of Aegiali is sensational. It is about an easy path that you can walk through, in about two hours.
The path “Pan” (Lagada, Agios Ioannis, Stavros, Krikelos) length of 6.5 km., passing through the Byzantine Monastery of St. John the Theologian and the chapel of the Cross leads to the highest point of the island, Mountain Krikelos in 821m above sea level. Although considered difficult path, lasting about two hours, it’s worth the walk. The view of the vastness of the Aegean Sea hugging around the island will leave you speechless!
Finally, Valsamitis (Katapola, Agios Georgios Valsamitis, Agia Marina Minoa) passes through the glebe of Agios Georgios Valsamitis and ends at the ancient Minoa where remains of the city wall, as well as, the stadium, the gymnasium and the temple of Dionysus. It is easy path length of one hour.

Tip: You should start very early in the morning, wear stable shoes and carry water with you and windproof because in some places the wind blows mercilessly!
